2. About Dark Tea Bricks
Dark Tea is an unique type of tea made by post fermentation with a more than 600 years history. In China, it is usually called Border-Sale Tea which was originally exported to other provinces, especially to West-North area of China. It was also one of the first teas to travel the ancient trading routes of the Tea Road and the Silk Road into eastern Russia. In order to ease the carriage of tea during transportation, tea leaves were compressed into brick form.
Due to the high value of tea in many parts of Asia, dark tea bricks were used as a form of currency throughout China, Tibet, Mongolia, and Central Asia. This is quite similar to the use of salt bricks as currency in parts of Africa. Dark tea bricks were in fact the preferred form of currency over metallic coins for the nomads of Mongolia and Siberia. The tea could not only be used as money and eaten as food in times of hunger but also brewed as allegedly beneficial medicine for treating coughs and colds. Until World War II, dark tea bricks were still used as a form of edible currency in Siberia.
Dark tea bricks are currently manufactured for drinking as well as for souvenirs and novelty items. Due to their density and toughness tea bricks were consumed after they were flaked, chipped or broken into small pieces ,then directly steeped into boiling water after thorough rinsing to make tea from tea bricks.
The dark tea brick is widely consumed and very popular in West North area of China. The living environment in these areas is very cold and harsh ,so the local people tend to have a lot of meat in their daily meal. In general their diet contains a lot of oil and fat. For those whom lack fresh greeneries in their diet, dark tea is a very important source of minerals and organic substances such as pro-vitamins, which is vital to health.
Moreover, researches studied that conjugated poly phenol in dark tea helps to reduce sugar intake. As a result, this tea will help to lower blood sugar level in our body. It does not really reduce existing sugar, but to reduce sugar intake from food into our body. In our body metabolism, sugar derives from carbohydrate. The hydrolysis of carbohydrate into sugar involves various enzymes. A number of various enzymes involved in different stages of sugar metabolism. According to health study, dark tea works on the enzyme which is in charge of hydrolysis of sugar. Enzyme misunderstands particular substances in the tea as sugar and eventually less sugar is produced from carbohydrate.
Basically the reduction of blood sugar causes lack of energy in our body metabolism. As a result, our body system needs to burn existing fat and cholesterol stored inside our body in order to supply sufficient energy for normal body metabolism. That's the exact reason why drinking dark tea could have the function of slimming by lowering blood sugar.
3. Health Benifits of Dark Tea
Replenish diet nutrient: Dark tea contains rich nutrients, most notably vitamins and minerals, plus protein, amino acids, sugar substances.
Lipid-lowering, weight loss, softening of human blood vessels, prevention of cardiovascular disease: Dark tea can reduce blood fat and the role of peroxidase
Anti-oxidation, anti-aging, longevity: Dark tea is also contains large amounts of trace elements which also have antioxidant effect such as zinc, manganese, Copper (SOD composition of elements) and selenium (GSHPX the composition of elements) and so on. So it has the function of anti-oxidation, scavenging free radicals and delaying cell senescence.
Anti-cancer, anti-mutagenic: The study made on dark tea with a model of tumor cell SGC7901 adopting cutting-edge technology of High Throughput Screening has proven that dark tea has significant inhibiting effect on tumor cells.
To improve carbohydrate metabolism, lowering blood sugar, diabetes control: Tea polysaccharide complex in dark tea is the main component which lowers blood sugar. Tea polysaccharide complex commonly referred to as tea polysaccharide, is a complex which changes in mixture. Studies showed that dark tea has the highest content of tea polysaccharide compared to the other types of tea. Tea polysaccharide in dark tea is more active than that of any other kinds of teas. It is because sugar chain and peptide chain with relatively short length formed by glucosidase, protease, hydrolase in fermented tea is more easily absorbed and more active than that of longer length. That is why dark tea excels any other teas in lowering blood sugar.
Bactericidal, anti-inflammatory: Theaflavins and thearubigins are the major components which make the color of dark tea infusion. Studies found that theaflavins is not only an effective free radical scavenger and anti-oxidants, but also has antibacterial effect for the bud botulinum bacteria, intestinal Bacteroides, Staphylococcus aureus, capsular bacteria, Bacillus cereus. In addition, it has inhibiting effect on theaflavins influenza viruses, rotavirus and enterovirus to a certain extent.
